Devils River

The Devils River project began in 2003 and has involved the acquisition and subsequent resale of over 120,000 acres, all currently under or slated for conservation easement, along the Devil’s River of Val Verde County, Texas. This biologically important area lies between Del Rio and Sonora, Texas at the intersection of three diverse regions – the Edwards Plateau, the Chihuahuan Desert and the Rio Grande Plain brush land.

This project has been undertaken in cooperation with our longstanding conservation partner, The Nature Conservancy of Texas. As part of a long-range goal of protecting the valuable spring water that feeds the Devils River, the cleanest river in texas. Use of innovative conservation easement practices will ensure that the large ranches bordering the Devils River will escape large-scale fragmentation, reducing the threat of habitat loss.
